Black Mask Anarchist Library Opening.
October 25, 2026, 5:00PM to 9:00PM.

The world we live in is designed to make us feel isolated and powerless, but coming together to deepen our perspectives can challenge us to think for ourselves, and increasingly rare and dangerous act in this time of AI, algorithms, and mass surveillance. Immersing ourselves in the hard-fought words of those who came before us and in whose footsteps we choose to walk can remind us that even when we are alone in space, we are never alone in time. The past is only over if we allow it to be forgotten. By choosing to dive into what is means to pursue liberation on our town terms, as neither leaders nor followers, we can refuse the conformity disguised as connection by those doing everything in their power to obliterate the last vestiges of what makes us human beings who feel, dream, and imagine and not machines who only produce and consume.

Spaces where we can shake off the jaded apathy that each one of us puts on as protective armour to guard against the forces manipulating, demeaning and threatening us are few and far between. The library is an invitation to face the stakes of this moment and the task before us, in the good company of all the anarchist books and zines we can collect. Anyone with freedom in their heart is warmly welcome at the Black Mask Anarchist Library!

The library is names in honor of our recently passed comrade Ben Morea (1941-2026) who was part of creating the street paper Black Mask and the anarchist revolutionary group Up Against the Wall Motherfucker in the 1960s. In doing so we hope to carry his spirit of resistance into the library Project.

More on our book drive:
What if instead of gather dust in your apartment, your favorite anarchist books could be part of a living, breathing library? We catalogue our books so that people can lend their personal titles to the library for however long they want and reclaim them whenever they wish. We are looking for:
Books about lived experiences of insurrections or revolutions from anywhere in the world, no matter how small, especially little-known history, and including books not in English;
Books about experiments in carving out or defending spaces of freedom, outside of political systems or institutions, during times of revolution or times of dictatorship.
